Alpha Star represents Abound Logic in UK and Ireland for the ASIC prototyping market.

Cortus offers a very compact, very low powered 32-bit microcontroller aimed at the very deeply embedded applications. With 9,500 gates it has a similar silicon area to an 8051 but with 0.9 Dhrystone MIPS/MHz its computational power is considerably higher. Its power consumption is extremely low. The IP comes with standard peripherals and interfaces and a coprocessor. The processor was 'designed around' its C-compiler ensuring that software can be developed with high level languages. The core was described earlier this year as "King of Lilliput" by Microprocessor Report (scroll to May 11th 2009, "Itty-Bitty 32-Bitters"). Software development is supported through a GNU toolchain from Cortus or by development tools from Raisonnance and Lauterbach.

Alpha Star was founded by Roddy Urquhart – an electronics industry veteran with over a quarter of a century working in the European Market. Previous roles have included Director European Marketing and Sr Director Professional Services Europe, Middle East & India both at Synopsys. He has worked in pan European positions based in both Germany and the UK.
